The Daily Penguin was spawned in October 2006 to deliver “miscellaneous droppings” from downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Its humble beginnings were low tech and low brow. No graphics. No tags. Just blog banter.

After a couple of months, The Daily Penguin shed its Blogger shell and grew into The Silver Spring Penguin. Its turf has also grown to include neighborhoods adjacent to Silver Spring’s central business district.

The mission remains the same: to deliver straight-dope coverage with chutzpah.

Jennifer Deseo, Editor-in-Chief

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Jennifer got her start as a laboratory test subject. When she grew tired of selling her own blood, she made the leap to freelance writing and editing. In 2006, Jennifer launched The Daily Penguin. She lives in downtown Silver Spring.

Ron Pace, Assistant Editor

Ron brought his technical and photographic skills to The Penguin newsroom in January 2007. He lives in downtown Silver Spring.
