UPDATE — The Penguin newsroom logged some extra miles this week, bouncing from Metro Center to Times Square and back again in three days. Peg that action on two conferences: the New Media Women Entrepreneurs Summit in The District, and the CUNY J School’s boot camp on hyperlocal-news business models. Both conferences were interesting, informative and exhausting.
And now I’ve got to prep the newsroom for Thursday’s town-hall meeting with MoCo exec Ike Leggett in Takoma Park, and a concurrent open forum for residents at one downtown apartment complex.

It was awesome meeting you at CUNY J-School’s conference. Great site! Good luck and stay in touch!
Is Leggett going to announce tonight that the Fillmore deal has been signed?
Don’t know. If he does, I’ll post it immediately on Twitter.
To follow Leggett’s town-hall meeting on Twitter, search the hashtag #ike.

This probably isn’t the right place to post, but I don’t know where
else to put it.
I have a suggestion for a campaign I think the Penguin should take up.
Let’s move the penguin statue to a better location. Right now, the
poor lonely creature is sitting in the middle of traffic near the
corner of Spring & Ellsworth. Why not move it somewhere in the newly
developed downtown? Either in front, by the Downtown Silver Spring
fountain or somewhere along the plaza seem like good spots to me.
However, there are lots of potential spots. Anything would be better
than its current location where nobody really sees it.
What do you say, SS Penguin? How about helping out your relative?
Editor’s note: No, thank you. — JD (Nov 13, 2009)
