UPDATE — The people at Penguin HQ are so damn glad this week is over. After idling in traffic, jumping turnstiles at the Silver Spring Metro station, and hiking for blocks and blocks, everyone’s just happy not to commute anywhere. There’s no need to get in the car or hop the Metro this weekend to enjoy a little sumpin sumpin.
One thing that’s got the newsroom’s Style section slap happy for tickets is Saturday’s “Night at the Bollywood Film Awards” at Montgomery College. The dance performance celebrates the rhythm and color that make Indian musicals so freakin’ spectacular. It’ll get your bhangra bonbon shaking.

Boxed wines and rosés are back in vogue. Just ask The Penguin's sommeliers.
This has nothng to do with this post, but just reporting that I read in the washington business journal (oct 30 issue) that Peterson company signed a lease for Nandos Peri Peri in the old Bombay & Co space on Ellsworth. Hate Ellsworth all you want, but Nando’s makes some incredible chicken and more. Their Chinatown location is awesome. Quick, somebody get us some details on the opening!!!
Editor’s note: Sorry, Woodsider. I spoke with the shopping center’s management last week, and Nando’s Peri Peri has not signed a lease — yet. However, the chicken joint and Downtown Silver Spring are in negotiations. — JD (Nov 8, 2009)
In light of the fact that there are entities on the second floor, if there is going to be a chicken joint in that space, it had better have a darn good HVAC system. It had also better have really good grease control equipment, as well as good management of grease.
I went to Jackie’s this weekend. They’ve hired a new executive chef and the menu has changed quite a bit. Very good and fairly moderately priced.
I saw a sign in that store today that says some other kind of store is coming to that space, I think a toy store. I have half forgotten because it sounded useless to me. It was nothing edible, anyway.
