UPDATE — It’s that time of the year again, when the undead stumble along downtown Silver Spring’s streets in search of plump, juicy brains and beer. That’s right, people — it’s Zombie Walk 2.0.
The lurch goes down Saturday night, starting at the Quarry House Tavern (8401 Georgia Ave), then through the Downtown Silver Spring shopping center. Ultimately, everyone lands at the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Rd) for a little “Shaun of the Dead” (2004).
While our newsroom intern isn’t into this kind of thing (tater tots scare him), the guys in the Penguin mailroom eat this shit with a big spoon. The zombie walk has everything they could ever want in a good time: blood, guts, alcohol, and stalking people without maintaining a 50-foot distance. They love it!

Saturday
9:00 a.m. FreshFarm Markets brings local farmers and food vendors to Ellsworth Drive, between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street, until 1:00 p.m. There is no admission fee.
10:00 a.m. The Silver Spring library (8901 Colesville Rd) hosts its annual book festival, which includes a bake sale, petting zoo and canned-food drive. There is no admission fee; this event ends at 3:00 p.m.
10:30 a.m. Dog trainer Mary Sullivan offers advice on behavior modification and responsible pet ownership. This free event takes place at Living Ruff pet supplies (8517 Georgia Ave) until 12:30 p.m.
11:00 a.m. The Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center (8230 Georgia Ave) celebrates the “Wall of Peace” project until 1:00 p.m. This free event is open to the public.
12:00 p.m. ArtSpring (8519 Georgia Ave) hosts a closing reception until 4:00 p.m. for “Unmasked”, an exhibit of sculptures made from the radiation masks of head and neck cancer patients. This free event is open to the public.
7:30 p.m. The second annual Silver Spring Zombie Walk starts at the Quarry House Tavern (8401 Georgia Ave), then marches at 9:10 p.m. towards the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Rd) for a 10:00 p.m. screening of “Shaun of the Dead” (2004). Participation in the zombie walk is free; tickets to the film screening are $10 each.
POSTPONED. The Forum Theatre Co. presents Tony Kushner’s award-winning drama “Angels in America: Perestroika”. This event takes place at the Round House Theatre (8641 Colesville Rd); admission is “pay what you can”. This event has been rescheduled for Thursday, Oct 29, 2009.
