Silver Spring’s streets were thumping Saturday as two events drew residents out of their homes and into the hood.

Menacing morning clouds gave way to uber-bright sunshine, just in time for the Fenton Street Market. The crafts fair was the second such event at the parking lot on Fenton Street and Silver Spring Avenue.

Some of the market’s merchants — most notably, the used-bicycle vendor and the wooden toy guy – appeared at September’s event. Others were showing their goods in Fenton Village for the first time.

Organizers for the market have not announced future events.

Meanwhile on Kennett Street, more artists set up shop at the South Silver Spring Block Party. The third annual event also offered food from area restaurants, a Hook and Ladder biergarten, and local entertainment.

Local pols were sure to show their faces at the block party. At-large council members Nancy Floreen, George Leventhal and Marc Elrich, as well as District 5 rep Valerie Ervin pressed the flesh. State delegates Tom Hucker and Heather Mizeur, who are up for re-election next November, did the same.
