This Weekend

Last week, the county launched its biennial survey to probe whether people dig what’s going down in Rockville. The quality-of-life survey hits 3,000 random homes and asks residents whether they use county facilities, like county employees, and get what the government is saying.

But in a county where the population is working on one million, a survey of 3,000 random households ain’t gonna cut it. So The Penguin is unleashing its biennial Quality of Nightlife survey.

The last survey scored good responses on what Silver Springers want in a social life — more booze, more music, a little bowling. Additionally, this year’s survey will gauge how other shit — namely, the economy and Red Line delays — have affected how people party.

Look for the survey to show in the next week or two. In the meantime, sample this weekend’s nightlife:

    Penguin, I have a request:

I know that local politicians and news organizations pay attention to the Silver Spring blogs like yours. Could you and the other power players of the Silver Spring blogoverse create a new, joint nightlife survey? I think that your combined readership is now bigger than in 2007 (I know a added a new pound or two, ba-dump-bump!), and this new survey could then be sent to our local pols and players and, who knows, might even improve things in our sleepy burg.

Just the other week I was saying to the missus how much I wanted a local bowling alley.

Actually, if the survey is done well 3,000 is a sufficient sample size.

  4. Thanks for your comment, Springvale.

The Penguin’s Quality of Nightlife survey will be conducted for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.

Still, if some Penguin reader wishes to use the survey’s data to promote or oppose a pertinent issue with the county government, then I can’t stop him/her from doing that.

Hey thanks for putting the Farmer’s Market in the calendar. This week come on down for some fun tunes and acoustic blues during your veggie shopping. Snakehead Run will be playing for the Farmer’s Market, and then again later in the afternoon on the Magical Montgomery Street Stage.

Oops I’m a little late in reading my email. Snakhead Run will be at the Market on the 26th.
