His bags are packed, and his rabies vaccinations are up to date. In a few hours, our beloved Penguin intern will be off to summer camp!
Parting is so bittersweet. The Penguin newsroom will miss the furry little booger and his mid-morning coffee runs. But at the same time, we can’t help but smile at the thought of him frolicking in the woods with other interns, smoking cigarettes behind the dining hall, and skinny dipping in the lake after curfew.

Monday
Our Penguin intern catches the charter bus for his first day at summer camp. Have fun, little guy!
Tuesday
11:00 a.m. The county council decides whether to amend Silver Spring’s urban-renewal plan to allow a footbridge between downtown’s new library and the Wayne Avenue garage. This free event takes place at the council’s office building (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville), third floor, and is open to the public.
Wednesday
The guys in the Penguin mailroom put a high-powered hose and concentrated bleach to the Penguin intern’s kennel.
Thursday
7:00 p.m. Developers discuss plans to build housing, office and retail space, and a hotel at the corner of Fenton Street and Silver Spring Avenue. This free event takes place at the media center inside Silver Spring International Middle School (313 Wayne Ave). It is open to the public.
