This Weekend

If I had to guess what will be this weekend’s coolest event, I’d have to pick Saturday’s yard sale at Jackie’s Restaurant. Restaurateur Jackie Greenbaum is unloading drinking glasses, beer mugs and other household items from her eponymous digs as well as from the Quarry House Tavern.

And imagine what those old Quarry House shot glasses have been through in that favorite dive bar! How many of them contained the Devil’s nectar in the days of Prohibition? (I’m talking about old-skool prohibition, not the bullshit liquor laws we have now.) Which ones survived the chaos of DC’s punk scene?

Pick up a few for your fireplace mantle, then hit these other events:

Thursday

7:00 p.m. Elliot Levine performs funk and rhythm and blues on Silver Plaza (Ellsworth Dr near Georgia Ave). This free event is part of the Silver Spring Regional Center’s summer concert series.

Why is Jackie selling all the stuff? Is she just getting new stuff? Those places aren’t in trouble, are they?

  2. I don't see yuppies...yet says:

Where is Jackie’s in relation to Quarry?

  3. I think Jackie just has extra stuff to unload. All proceeds benefit the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center.

The Quarry House is on the corner of Georgia and Bonifant. (The cellar door is unmarked.) Jackie’s is on Georgia and Sligo, a few blocks south of the Quarry House.

Think you forgot the Gallery African music festival tonight.

  5. Easley Does It says:

Hey, where’s this week’s burger review?

  6. Sorry, Easley Does It. My ever-expanding waistline got in the way of this week’s burger review.

Expect a new episode of Burger Quest 2009 in early August.

Jennifer, veggie burgers usually have fewer calories! By the way, how about a contest for best intersections for sprinting across? Adrenalin rush vs. run-for-your-life terror! I think it would be possible to eat a veggie burger and then sprint the whole thing off in DTSS crosswalks, unless one were squashed by some bozo texting while driving..
