A purple tee shirt and Prop 8 were enough to get someone to smash a store window at the American Apparel clothing store on Colesville Road and Fenton Street earlier this week. Coverage from ABC-7 News spells it out:
There’s additional coverage from Washington City Paper, which said threats of busted windows over the California company’s “Legalize Gay” ad campaign were still rolling in.
A press statement from American Apparel indicated the ads were here and were queer. Get used to it.
Updated on Jul 23, 2009, to include stuff from City Paper’s coverage. — JD

Michele,
This area is pretty gay-friendly, but all that means is that gays can walk down the street with much less of a chance of being harassed than in non-gay friendly places. All it takes is one deranged homophobe to commit this kind of vandalism.
That said, we don’t know where the perp came from. He might have simply sought out the local AA stores.
