Good news: That darling of the newsroom, our beloved Penguin intern, returns from his week at summer camp!

We can’t wait to hear of his adventures — the prank coffee runs pulled on junior interns, drunken softball games in the rain and mud, and sightings of the legendary Lost Intern, who haunts the woods around Camp Runamok. Too cool! (more…)

 

County council quashes foot bridge to new library

ROCKVILLE — Start building those man-sized sling shots. The county council has rejected proposed changes to Silver Spring’s development plan that would allow a pedestrian bridge to be built between downtown’s new library and the Wayne Avenue garage. (more…)

EDITORIAL — Many so-called solutions have been posed to the very real problem of how to cross Wayne Avenue to check out books from downtown Silver Spring’s new library.

Additionally, since the Purple Line has decided to drive through the middle of the building, we need to figure out how to defy gravity and get our late-DVD-toting selves into the library.

Only one solution knocks both problems out at once –- trebuchet. I’ll say it again: Trebuchet.

The Early Bird

His bags are packed, and his rabies vaccinations are up to date. In a few hours, our beloved Penguin intern will be off to summer camp!

Parting is so bittersweet. The Penguin newsroom will miss the furry little booger and his mid-morning coffee runs. But at the same time, we can’t help but smile at the thought of him frolicking in the woods with other interns, smoking cigarettes behind the dining hall, and skinny dipping in the lake after curfew. This Weekend

If I had to guess what will be this weekend’s coolest event, I’d have to pick Saturday’s yard sale at Jackie’s Restaurant. Restaurateur Jackie Greenbaum is unloading drinking glasses, beer mugs and other household items from her eponymous digs as well as from the Quarry House Tavern. (more…)

 

Penguin TV: Gay-bashing, window-smashing vandal
