Red Line trains collide, killing nine people

Two Red Line trains collided Monday afternoon, leaving nine people dead and 76 injured, The Baltimore Sun reported.

The crash occurred around 5:00 p.m. between the Takoma and Ft Totten stations, WMATA said in a press statement. The first train, which was headed towards Shady Grove, rear ended the second, which was stopped in front of it and waiting for the station platform at Ft Totten to clear, The Sun wrote. The SilverDocs film fest might be over, but tell that to Marion Barry.

The District’s ”mayor for life” made an appearance at the AFI Silver Theatre Saturday night for a screening of “The Nine Lives of Marion Barry”, a documentary on high times and low lights at City Hall. (more…)

The United States is populated with hyphenated people — Asian-American, African-American, Muslim-American, blah blah blah. The suffix identifies what we are: citizens (or at least residents) of this country. The prefix identifies who we are, the culture with which we most closely relate. (more…)
