Now that SilverDocs is in the can, Penguin staffers can focus on the next task at hand: the upcoming Buy Local Silver Spring block party.

It goes without saying that this joint will be off the hook. Team Buy Local has pulled together top-notch entertainment for the event, including the Hook and Ladder biergarten, some live Afro-beat hip hop (it’s hot!) and BBQ. That’s right, I said BBQ.

The Buy Local Silver Spring block party drops Sunday, Jun 28, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Arts Alley, South Silver Spring. Stop by and show some love for the neighbors. And be there rain or shine.

Wednesday

7:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s transportation and pedestrian safety committee holds its monthly meeting at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday

9:30 a.m. The county council’s public safety committee discusses a $2.9 million appropriation to expand the county’s speed-camera program. This free event takes place at the council’s office buidling (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville), seventh floor, and is open to the public.
