The SilverDocs film fest might be over, but tell that to Marion Barry.
The District’s ”mayor for life” made an appearance at the AFI Silver Theatre Saturday night for a screening of “The Nine Lives of Marion Barry”, a documentary on high times and low lights at City Hall.
According to some guy on Twitter, Barry was greeted outside the cinema on Colesville Road with cheers and a few shouts of “Shame!”
Later that evening, Barry got his groove on at an after-party outside Jackie’s Restaurant, where go-go band Trouble Funk tore shit up on Georgia at Sligo Avenues. Revellers included civil-rights activist Lawrence Guyot and NBC-4 News guy Tom Sherwood, who shook his rump with the best of them.
The HBO flick documented Barry’s political career, from his early days in the civil-rights movement, and through his tumultuous gig as mayor and then city council member.

Boxed wines and rosés are back in vogue. Just ask The Penguin's sommeliers.
Um, this is slightly off, but where did I read about an artist who had a mini version of the Awakening statue in his backyard? Except instead of the bearded guy in the Awakening it was Marion Barry. Was it in the Penguin or the Post?
Sorry, wasn’t The Penguin. I don’t even know what the Awakening statue is.
Hi there, it was about the artist Lee Wheeler who designs and installs bar art, notably for Joe Englert who developed the H St NE corridor and just opened the H St Country Club there. I think it was the cover of the Citypaper last week.
Very talented guy.
