Sometimes a tee shirt says it all, like the one on the right, displayed at Sunday’s Handmade Mart craft market on Ellsworth Drive. A big burly dude slugging a grizzly bear yells, “Back off, jack! I’m about to put the hurt on somebody!”

Other shirts for sale, particularly those designed for the kiddies, giggle and squirm and say, “Feed me an extra-ripe mashed banana.” Or else they say, “My parents are re-living their college years through this onesie.”

But the Handmade Mart — Downtown Silver Spring’s answer to The District’s Crafty Bastards fair — offered more than distinct tee shirts. There were at least 60 vendors, some pushing home furnishings and jewelry, plus stationery for every occasion.

Students from Paul Green’s School of Rock provided the soundtrack.

A wonderful craft fair with high quality work AND the day was beautiful.

I arrived in the last hour and missedthose eyeball fish things — but got to see everyone holding down their tents and wares. People: you NEED to anchor these tents with 50-gallon drums filled with water — check out the set-up they do at the DC Holiday Market downtown. It is just not safe to do otherwise.
