This Weekend

Penguin corporate headquarters is dealing with issues today: Water in the building was turned off this morning to repair a faulty pipe, and it won’t be back on for another half hour.

Not a problem for some — the Penguin intern is paper trained, and the guys in the mailroom never made use of the bathroom anyway. But newsroom staffers have been dancing in place since returning from lunch, and it ain’t getting prettier.

So as editor in chief, I’m calling it a day. Perhaps tomorrow, Penguin employees will be showered and ready to tackle this weekend’s events:

Friday

6:30 p.m. Kefa Cafe’s Space 7:10 (963 Bonifant St) hosts a reception for ceramics artist Alvin Lewis Thomas and others featured in its current exhibit, “Art for the People”. This event is free and open to the public.

8:00 p.m. The Silver Spring Stage (10145 Colesville Rd) presents the McCarthy-era drama “A Bad Friend”. Tickets are $15 to $18 each.

10:00 p.m. Event producer 88 hosts “Loda”, an electronic music and multimedia party, at Gallery Lounge (1115 East-West Hwy). There is a $10 cover charge for this over-21 event.

Saturday

10:00 a.m. The Downtown Silver Spring shopping center hosts a day trip to the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The bus departs from 908 Ellsworth Dr (between DSW and Borders) and returns to Downtown Silver Spring at 11:00 p.m. Round-trip fare is $5 per person for this over-21 event.

10:00 a.m. Montgomery Preservation and the Washington, Virginia and Maryland Garden Railway Society host an open house at the B&O rail station (8100 Georgia Ave) until 3:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
