Robbers jack South Silver Spring bank

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Robbery Section and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Thursday morning in Silver Spring.

At approximately 10:42 a.m., Montgomery County police third-district officers responded to the report of a bank robbery that had just occurred at the Independence Federal Savings Bank (7901 Eastern Ave).

The preliminary investigation revealed that two male suspects, one armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun, entered the bank. They ordered the manager to open the bank vault and, after obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, fled in a vehicle in an unknown direction. No one was injured.

The suspects are described as black males. One is described as 6’0” to 6’2” tall, 180 to 220 pounds, wearing a bright yellow jacket, black pants, and gloves. The other is described as 5’8” to 5’11” tall, 160 to 180 pounds, wearing black pants and gloves, and armed with a handgun.
