This Weekend

Okay, people. Here’s your last chance to jump in on a world-premiere event at the AFI Silver Theatre

Seriously, when was the last time you strolled down the red carpet in your smartest designer duds, the paparazzi clamoring to get your photo? I have to say it’s been a while for me. After all, one doesn’t dump Brad Pitt every day.

So why not grab that glamor when you can? The Penguin is giving away two pairs of tickets to the intergalactic premiere (even bigger than a world premiere) of “Boxing Day” on Aug 7, 2008, at the AFI. The locally produced flick goes something like this:

Want in? Send your full name and email address to boxingday@silverspringpenguin.com to enter the drawing. The game ends midnight Sunday, so move your ass. Winners will be announced next Monday.

Disclaimer: I don’t know if there will be any red-carpet moments at the film premiere. But I’ll gladly tell anyone who asks that I’m wearing the latest fashions from Tarzhey.

Here’s what else is kicking it this weekend:

Thursday

7:00 p.m. The Latin-rock band Patrick Alban and Noche Latina performs a free concert on Ellsworth Drive near Georgia Avenue. This event is part of the Silver Spring Swings weekly concert series and is open to the public.

Friday

3:00 p.m. The Pyramid Atlantic community arts store (924 Ellsworth Dr) hosts a free wine tasting for parents of babies and toddlers. The kiddies work on art. Mommy and Daddy work on wine until 5:00 p.m. Everybody’s happy.

5:00 p.m. The Pyramid Atlantic community arts store (924 Ellsworth Dr) keeps the tap running with a free champagne celebration. Not sure what they’re celebrating, but free champagne until 7:00 p.m. works for me.

6:30 p.m. Ricardo and the Salseros perform on Ellsworth Drive near Georgia Avenue. This free event is part of the Friday Night Spotlight weekly concert series and is open to the public.

Saturday
