On the eighth day, the Supreme Being looked upon what he/she had created and found it missing one thing: a daily Penguin with a fully functioning web server.

That server finally came back up for most readers at noon yesterday, though I couldn’t access jack squat until after 5:00 p.m. (I still can’t get into my email account.) Sorry for the inconvenience.

In the meantime, here’s what’s cooking the rest of this week:

Throughout the week

The SilverDocs film festival does its thang at the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Rd). With any luck, Penguin editor Jennifer Deseo (read: me) will cover (read: crash) some of the screenings.

For a preview of that madness, check out last year’s Penguin coverage — comments and all.

Tuesday

1:30 p.m. The county council holds a public hearing on zoning text amendment 08-08, which would raise building heights in Fenton Village to accomodate workforce housing. The free show hits the county council office building (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville) and is open to the public.

1:30 p.m. The county council holds a public hearing on zoning text amendment 08-10, which would raise building heights for hotels in Fenton Village. Once again, it’s the county council office building (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville). Hit it.

1:30 p.m. The county council goes for the trifecta with a public hearing on zoning text amendment 08-07 and subdivision regulation amendment 08-02, both of which would increase density or building heights to accommodate moderately priced dwelling units. You know where.

Wednesday

7:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s commercial and economic development committee holds its monthly meeting at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday

2:00 p.m. The planning board combs through the county’s list of transportation priorities, which it will pass along to the county council and, ultimately, state legislators. Check it out at MNCPPC headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave).

3:00 p.m. The planning board is briefed on the Silver Place charette, the brainstorm that determined housing and office space, but not retail space, were cool for the corner of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. Get yourself briefed at MNCPPC headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave).

3:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s urban-district advisory committee holds its monthly meeting at the Urban District Office (8110 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.
