There’s plenty of music in the streets of Silver Spring this weekend. But for my (nonexistent) money, the real show rocks the AFI Theatre Friday night.
Like clockwork, the movie house drops “Friday the 13th, Part III”, though without the original 3D effects. It’s your last chance to catch high-brow cinema there before those SilverDocs geeks stink up the place with that artsy-fartsy smell.
If slasher flicks aren’t your thing, partake of Silver Spring’s other offerings:
Thursday
7:00 p.m. The steel-drum band Pan Masters Steel Orchestra performs a free concert on Ellsworth Drive near Georgia Avenue. This event is part of the Silver Spring Swings weekly concert series and is open to the public.
8:00 p.m. The Spooky Action Theater Co. presents the dark comedy “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” at Montgomery College’s Black Box Theatre (Philadelphia at Chicago Aves, Takoma Park). Tickets are $10 each ($5 for students).
Friday
5:30 p.m. Acoustic musicians Steven and the Hangers On perform at South Silver Spring’s Arts Alley (8030 Georgia Ave). This event is part of the weekly Arts Alley Fridays series of free performances.
6:00 p.m. Producer 88 presents Loda, a music-and-multimedia event, at Gallery (1115 East-West Hwy) until 3:00 a.m. This event costs $10 per person and is open to adults age 21 and up.
6:30 p.m. Kefa Cafe’s Space 7:10 (963 Bonifant St) hosts a reception for Baltimore artist Kyle Miller, who constructs small reliefs from paper and painter’s materials. This event is free and open to the public.
6:30 p.m. Blues artists 2nd Story Band performs a free concert on Ellsworth Drive near Georgia Avenue. This event is part of the Friday Night Spotlight concert series and is open to the public.
8:00 p.m. The Silver Spring Stage (10145 Colesville Rd) presents the dramedy “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean!” Tickets are $13 to $18 each.
8:00 p.m. The Spooky Action Theater Co. presents the dark comedy “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” at Montgomery College’s Black Box Theatre (Philadelphia at Chicago Aves, Takoma Park). Tickets are $10 each ($5 for students).
10:00 p.m. and midnight. The AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Rd) presents the slasher film “Friday the 13th, Part III” (1982). Tickets are $9.75 each.
Saturday
9:00 a.m. Freshfarm holds its weekly farmers market on Ellsworth Drive, between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue until 1:00 p.m. There is no admission fee.
6:30 p.m. Rock band Zero Discipline performs a free concert on Ellsworth Drive near Georgia Avenue. This event is part of Downtown Silver Spring’s weekly concert series and is open to the public.

Saturday night you could also come on down to the Quarry House for Rockabilly Saturday Night. Live rockabilly, honky tonk, classic country, and good old rock and roll, 9:30 - 1:00. Only $6, Two for $10.
