The Early Bird

Imagine lounging around the pool at Penguin corporate headquarters and not having a frosty (virgin) margarita at hand.

Blame The Penguin’s cabana boy, who took it upon himself to take time off.

Bad cabana boy! Look at all the fun stuff he’ll be missing this week:

Monday

All day. The county observes Memorial Day. Administrative offices, courts and libraries are closed, but most county liquor stores will be open until 6:00 p.m. Parking at county lots, garages and meters is free. Ride-On buses, Metro buses and Metro rail operate on a Sunday schedule.

Wednesday

7:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s transportation and pedestrian safety committee holds its monthly meeting at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday

7:30 p.m. Chris Leinberger, land-use strategist and visiting fellow at The Brookings Institution, explores the demand for walkable urban places in the suburbs. This free event takes place at MNCPPC headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave) and is open to the public.
