The Penguin newsroom was so psyched to learn a charette was coming to town. Imagine their disappointment when they  learned it wasn’t a Cirque du Soleil show.

Instead, it’s a fancy architectural term for brainstorming. Great.

Monday

7:00 p.m. Silver Spring’s neighborhoods committee holds its monthly meeting at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.

7:00 p.m. The planning department explains the charette process that will be used to develop Silver Place, its future headquarters and mixed-use project on Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. This free event takes place at MNCPPC headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave) and is open to the public.

Tuesday

7:30 p.m. The county council holds public hearings on two proposed zoning changes — one that allows for more density near transit stations, another that allows residential units to be built over commercial space near transit stations. This free event takes place in Rockville and is open to the public.

Wednesday

7:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s economic-development committee gets briefed on how more green space can be incorporated into the central business district. This free event takes place at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave) and is open to the public.

Thursday

9:00 a.m. The county’s planning board decides whether to extend a project-plan deadline for the multi-use development at 8700 Georgia Ave. This free event takes place at MNCPPC headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave) and is open to the public.

7:30 p.m. Bernadette Hanlon, with UMBC’s Center for Urban Environmental Research and Education, discusses growth and decline in suburbia at MNCPPC headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.
