Move over, Washington Nationals. There’s a new team in town — The Silver Spring Penguins — and they are gonna tear you up. It’s what they do.
The rookie Penguin team (sponsored by The Penguin newsroom staff) plays in the Takoma Park-Silver Spring baseball league. And when I say rookie, I mean rookie — a pack of 6- and 7-year-olds who have never even played teeball.
But what they lack in technical ability, they make up for in heart, tenacity and an insatiable appetite for pizza. Spring training starts this Sunday.

Thursday
6:00 p.m. Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., hosts an informal community conversation on plans for downtown’s future civic building. This free event takes place at the Mayorga Coffee Factory (8040 Georgia Ave) and is open to the public.

3:00 p.m. Space 88 (8211 Mayor Ln) hosts a reception for Tom Block. The painter’s ongoing public-art project, “Cousins”, appears at the entrance to the Kennett Street parking garage (off Eastern Ave). This event is free and open to the public.
