MoCo PD detectives and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are looking into an attempted bank robbery that went down Tuesday morning on Wayne Avenue in downtown Silver Spring.
According to the police, a man walked into the BB&T Bank at 1100 Wayne Ave before 9:30 a.m. and demanded money from a teller. The suspect didn’t flash a weapon or imply he had one. But when he became discouraged with the teller, the suspect left without a dime.
Third-district police officers showed up shortly
thereafter but didn’t nab the guy. No one was injured.
The suspect is described as a 30-something black man with a light complexion, about 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He wore a tan jacket, blue jeans, sunglasses and was rocking a beard.
Anyone with information about this attempted bank robbery or the suspect is asked to call the MoCo PD’s major crimes division at (240) 773-5100. Callers may remain anonymous.

No gun, nor even a threat of one? That’s the problem with bank robbers these days: no initiative.
Well, here’s hoping they catch the dude. His sunglasses weren’t exactly a mask.
A bit of topic but crime none the less. On Tuesday someone stole my new bicycle which was locked to the sidewalk sign between Kefa Cafe & The Quarry House. It was at around 6pm, daylight, with plenty of foot and car traffic. This is the time of the year when people get back on their bikes, and there will always be those who don’t want to pay hard earned cash for them. Buy the best lock you can ( I’m getting both a U lock and a cable lock now). I learned the hard way that a pair of lineman cable cutters makes quick work out of even the thickest cable locks. Thank-You and be ever vigilant.
Holler back.
