The Early Bird

First, the bad news. Contributions to The Penguin newsroom’s Ray’s the Classic fund are not tax deductible. The snag sets back a long-anticipated review of the steak house for at least a few months.

On the upside, my inability to earn an income means I pay no taxes. Eat it, Uncle Sam!

Here’s what’s going on this week:

Monday

6:30 p.m. Whole Foods Market (833 Wayne Ave) hosts a demonstration on how to prepare vegan dishes like homemade seitan with sautéed root vegetables in a red wine reduction; mung-bean fritters with cranberry, pear, and beet salad; and cardamom-infused coconut-milk rice pudding. This event costs $5 per participant.

7:00 p.m. Silver Spring’s citizens advisory board holds its monthly meeting at the Silver Spring Public Library (8901 Colesville Rd). This event is free and open to the public.

8:00 p.m. Troika Theater performs Bernard Pomerance’s “The Elephant Man” at the Back Room at Jackie’s (8081 Georgia Ave). Tickets are $18.50 each (excluding food and drinks).

Tuesday

Da Man wants his due, so be sure to have your taxes filed no later than April 15. Workers at the Second Avenue post office keep the lights on until 9:00 p.m. for procrastinators and conscientious objectors. The Colesville Road outpost closes at 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday

7:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s commercial and economic development committee holds its monthly meeting at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave). This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday

3:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s urban-district advisory committee holds its monthly meeting at Discovery Communications (1 Discovery Pl). This event is free and open to the public.
