You’ve got two choices this weekend: high-fallutin’ culture or college basketball. I think you know what Penguin staffers are going for. Here’s why.
First, you can’t eat buffalo wings inside a theater, not without drawing a lot of attention to your blue and white body paint. Second, theater patrons tend to complain when you count down with the shot clock. And then there’s the theater’s pitiful lack of a mascot and school spirit. That right there seals the deal.
But if you must go bourgie this weekend, take a nibble at these fine events:
Friday
7:10 p.m. The Calliope Theater presents excerpts from new theatrical works and works in progress by local playwrights. This free event takes place at Kefa Cafe’s Space 7:10 (963 Bonifant St) and is open to the public.
Saturday
7:30 p.m. The Chu Shan Chinese Opera Institute presents “A Revival of Go Lan Bai Xi”, a showcase of drama and dance dating to the Song dynasty. This event takes place at the Round House Theatre (8641 Colesville Rd). Tickets cost $20 ($15 for students and seniors).
8:00 p.m. The Bach Sinfonia performs excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Am abend aber desselbigen Sabbats”, and Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Tafelmusik” and “Water Music”. This event takes place at the Woodside United Methodist Church (8900 Georgia Ave). Tickets are $28 ($25 for seniors, $15 for students).
Sunday
