The Silver Spring Penguin

The Penguin newsroom thought about sending a cub reporter to L.A. this weekend to cover the Oscar ceremony. But when we learned “Superbad” wasn’t nominated for anything, we saw little point in making the effort.

6:30 p.m. The Pyramid Atlantic Art Center (8230 Georgia Ave) hosts a reception for Charles Cohan, creator of the “Tectonic” print series, and Roberto Bocci, creator of the “Samples” photographic series. This event is free and open to the public.

7:00 p.m. The Happenstance Theater troupe performs the original surrealist play “Low Tide Hotel” at the Round House Theatre (8641 Colesville Rd). Tickets are $15.

8:00 p.m. The Spooky Action Theater troupe performs Sam Shepard’s “Fool for Love” at Montgomery College’s Black Box Theatre (Philadelphia at Chicago aves, Takoma Park). Tickets are $10.

7:00 p.m. The Happenstance Theater troupe performs the original surrealist play “Low Tide Hotel” at the Round House Theatre (8641 Colesville Rd). Tickets are $15.

8:00 p.m. The Spooky Action Theater troupe performs Sam Shepard’s “Fool for Love” at Montgomery College’s Black Box Theatre (Philadelphia at Chicago aves, Takoma Park). Tickets are $10.

8:00 p.m. The Silver Spring Stage (10145 Colesville Rd) presents the comedy “The Cripple of Inishmaan”. Tickets are $15 to $18.

Saturday

8:30 a.m. Montgomery College’s Health Sciences Center (7977 Georgia Ave) hosts student presentations, poster sessions, performances and displays. This event is free and open to the public.

9:00 a.m. Montgomery College’s Health Sciences Center (7977 Georgia Ave) holds an information session on its new undergraduate program in radiology, in conjunction with the College of Notre Dame. This event is free and open to the public.

3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The Happenstance Theater troupe performs the original surrealist play “Low Tide Hotel” at the Round House Theatre (8641 Colesville Rd). Tickets are $15.

8:00 p.m. The Bach Sinfonia presents harpsichordist Joseph Gascho, who performs J.S. Bach’s “Goldberg” variations. This event takes place at the Woodside United Methodist Church (8900 Georgia Ave). Tickets are $15 to $28.
