The Early Bird

The Penguin newsroom is buzzing over this week’s big contest. At this point, the race is just too damned close to call. But if we had to throw money down, Penguin staffers would crown this dog the winner.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to vote, and check out The Penguin’s new interactive guide to Silver Spring’s restaurants. Scroll to the bottom of our home page for a peek.

Here’s what’s cooking this week:

Monday

2:00 p.m. The county council’s economic-development committee hollers at the planning department’s request for $4.9 million. If approved, the cash would help bankroll the development of Silver Place, a mixed-use project for the corner of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. It all goes down in Rockville and is open to the public.

7:00 p.m. Silver Spring’s citizens advisory board talks constitutional law, economic development and all kinds of crazy shit at its monthly meeting. Hit it at the Long Branch Community Center (8700 Piney Branch Rd). This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday

7:00 a.m. The Democratic and Republican parties hold primaries for the next US president, and for Congressional representatives in Districts 4 and 8. Lost? Click here to find a polling place. You’ve gotta be registered to vote, and you’ve gotta be a member of either party.
