After weeks on the picket line, Penguin housekeepers have finally ended their strike. Now, if only the writers would get back to work.
Here’s what’s happening this week:
Monday
10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Rd) hosts free screenings of the documentary “King: A Filmed Record … Montgomery to Memphis”, about the life and death of Martin Luther King. The box office opens 30 minutes before each show; tickets are limited to four per person.
Tuesday
1:30 p.m. The county council hears public testimony on a $4.9 million appropriation for Silver Place, a mixed-use development planned for Georgia Avenue at Spring Street. The show goes down in Rockville, or you can catch it as streaming video on County Cable Montgomery’s website. Residents who wish to testify must call (240) 777-7931.
7:00 p.m. Gluttons for punishment hit the free four- to seven-mile fun run, starting at Pacers Running Store (8535 Fenton St). Call (301) 495-7811 in case of crappy weather.
Wednesday
7:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s neighborhoods committee kicks it at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave) to mull over possible Purple Line routes. The shindig is open to the public.
Thursday
9:30 a.m. The county council’s transportation committee gets the full scoop on those CSX train whistles when it meets with state and county railroad officials. The show hits Rockville and is open to the public.
7:00 p.m. The county executive’s office holds an open forum at the Long Branch Community Center (8700 Piney Branch Rd) on priorities for the fiscal year 2009 operating budget. Can’t make it? Holler at the county’s website.
