The Early Bird

Members of the US military have been kicking ass and taking names since day one. And whether you agree with war or not, at least you have that right, thanks to our vets. Here’s to all who answered the call to serve.

For those who passed on military service, show your appreciation and exercise your rights this week at one or more of these civic gigs:

Monday

All day. Montgomery County offices and libraries are closed, as well as state offices and courts, in observance of Veterans Day. On the upside, parking at county lots and meters is free, Metro and Ride On follow weekday schedules, and county liquor stores are open for business.

RESCHEDULED. Silver Spring’s citizens advisory board talks all things Silver Spring at the Gwendolyn Coffield Center (2450 Lyttonsville Rd). The meeting is open to the public.

Tuesday

7:00 p.m. WMATA holds the first public hearing on its proposed fare increase. Grab that picket sign and hit the Bechtel Conference Center (1801 Alexander Bell Dr, Reston) if you’re in the neighborhood.

Wednesday

7:00 p.m. Silver Spring’s citizens advisory board talks all things Silver Spring at the Gwendolyn Coffield Center (2450 Lyttonsville Rd). The meeting is open to the public.

7:00 p.m. WMATA holds more public hearings on the fare hike, one at Metro HQ (600 Fifth St NW, The District), and another at the Montgomery County Council building (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville). Hit either one and give ‘em hell.

Thursday

3:30 p.m. Silver Spring’s urban district advisory committee hooks up at Discovery Communications (1 Discovery Pl). The meeting is open to the public.

7:00 p.m. It’s your last chance to bitch about Metro’s proposed fare increase. Unload at any of these three locations: St. Luke’s Center (4923 E Capitol St SE, The District), the Arlington County Board office (2100 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington), or the Prince George’s sports and learning complex (8001 Sheriff Rd, Landover).

Work that democracy, people!

Anyone else finding the irony in the first public hearing being held in the bechtel conference center? (Bechtel has the contract for dulles metro.. they’re been advertising job opennings to work on the project like crazy in express lately) hahaha.. I’m not seriously saying there’s anything to it, just commenting on the humor.

Anyone know what was up at the intersection of Georgia and Colesville last night? Came in around 11 and both streets were closed for a block in every direction.

  3. Springvale Roader says:

Chaz, I don’t know what happened, but it must have been big, because we came home after 12 and they were still blocked off.
