Two teens busted for downtown carjackings

Detectives from MoCo PD’s third district say they nabbed two teenaged boys last week for two armed carjackings in the downtown area.

Clayton Vance Glenn, of the 800 block of Nalley Road in Landover, and Dorain Jereal Grogan, of the 7700 block of Pacer Court in Hyattsville, were charged last Tuesday with stealing two cars as their owners were stepping into or out of them. The suspects, both 17, have also been accused of kidnapping a driver in one instance.

According to a press statement, Glenn and Grogan approached a 30-year-old Bethesda woman on the evening of Oct 27 as she was getting out of her car in a garage at 921 Fenton St.

(The Penguin could not verify this address, though the county operates two parking facilities with Fenton Street addresses — at 8110 and 8206 Fenton St. There are also several privately operated parking facilities along that street.)

The two teens allegedly pulled a gun on the driver, demanded her keys, and then forced her into the back seat as they peeled out.

Later, the suspects drove to an unknown location and forced the woman into the trunk. She was able to pry the trunk open and jumped out when the car slowed at Timberwood Avenue and Lorain Drive in Four Corners, where she ran to a house for help.

The police also claim that in the early morning hours of Oct 28, the teens jacked a second driver as he walked to his car parked inside the Town Square garage on Ellsworth Drive. The suspects flashed a piece at the 28-year-old Virginia man and demanded his car keys and cell phone. He complied; the suspects peeled out.

It’s unclear what led police to the PG County teens. Both were charged as adults with  two counts of armed robbery, two counts of armed carjacking, two counts of first-degree assault, and kidnapping.

Glenn is being held at the MoCo detention center on $250,000 bond. Grogan was busted in the District and is awaiting extradition to Maryland.

    Ah, good work, police.

Let’s see, what would be an appropriate punishment for these two rascals? I know! Let’s tie them to the bumpers of the cars they wanted to violently carjack and have those cars speed off in opposite directions.

Unless, of course, you all think that’s not drastic enough.

Boy, it turns out Americans these days have really developed a taste for violent torture! Once you get rid of habeas corpus and accept torture as a necessity, well, by golly, you can solve a whole lot of problems quick as a flash.

    Hooray!

Yikes. I heard some police officers chatting in Seminary Beer and Wine about this incident last week.

I wonder how the kidnapping victim pried the trunk open and got out? I wish all the best to these victims, especially the young woman who was kidnapped.

Whatever happened to the good old days when kids had the inventive skills of breaking INTO cars instead of pointing a gun at someone for the car keys? Kid criminals are really lazy these days.

There is no “921 Fenton St.” can someone post where this garage actually is?

  6. Kathy says:

I just talked to the MoCo Police media person- she said the police responded to it at Wayne & Fenton – I’m guessing the “921″ came off the Wayne side of the building – at least this gives everyone a much better idea of where it took place.

How does that song go? Ah, yes: I believe that children are our future…

  9. IHateYuppies says:

Wow, look at Smitty’s post. I didn’t realize the Penguin has readership on from all the homeys on the “street”. Word up to the Penguin.

People make mistakes and should be forgiven.

  11. Woodsider says:

I can only imagine what Smitty’s original unedited comment was if those are the Penguin droppings that remain.

  12. Springvale Roader says:

Dizzle time, this was not a mistake. This was a violent crime where someone could have been killed. Forgiveness is fine, but these kids also need to be prosecuted for the safety of the larger community. Hopefully the kids will learn their lesson and, some years from now if they are contrite and reformed, forgiveness can come in the form of early release — but first they need to do some time.

Seriously, I think the Penguin missed some expletives in her editing run on Smitty’s post. Or are those allowed now, too? I’ve got some choice ones I’d love to unleash!

  14. Here are the rules in a nut shell:

    – If you make a claim, you’ve gotta back it up with proof or make it clear that it’s only opinion.

    – Threats to harm someone physically, mentally, emotionally or financially won’t be tolerated.

And as usual, I ask that you play nice, take no personal swipes, and make no anonymous posts.

    Thanks!
