The Early Bird

Stick a fork in it — The Penguin’s 2007 Quality of Nightlife survey is done! Thanks to all who filled out the survey and contributed to the discussion.

Results will be released in drips and drabs throughout the month. Expect a final report (the one that goes to Rockville) by the end of October.

In the meantime, here’s what’s cooking this week.

Monday. Members of the county council’s planning committee hash out details of the county’s growth policy, in case anyone’s still keeping score. The meeting drops at 2:00 p.m. in Rockville.

Tuesday. State delegates meet with the county council to review the 2008 wishlist. On that list: a special liquor license that would allow the Fillmore to operate in downtown Silver Spring.

State dels also discuss a statewide proposal to increase liabilities for individual condo-unit owners. Currently, a condo association can collect no more than $1,000 from a single owner when property damage stems from that dude’s condo unit. The proposed change would increase that amount to the condo association’s full insurance deductible.

The meeting of the legislative minds hits Rockville at 9:30 a.m.

Tuesday. County council asks Annapolis for $1.3 million to hook up Montgomery College’s new cultural arts center with furniture. The wheeling and dealing starts at 11:00 a.m. in Rockville.

Tuesday. The county council holds a public hearing on bill 23-07, which would prohibit discrimination based on a person’s gender identity. Testimony starts at 1:30 p.m. in Rockville.

Thursday. County council’s transportation committee gets the lowdown on Metro issues from WMATA reps. The full scoop hits at 9:30 a.m. in Rockville.
