The pool outside Penguin corporate headquarters closes for the season after today, as do many public pools. So put the Crackberry down and hit the water!
Here’s what else is cooking this week:
Monday. Soak in the last holiday of the summer. Government offices, courts and libraries are closed for Labor Day. However, most county-run liquor stores are open, and mass transit is running on a Sunday schedule. If you’re sober enough to drive, parking is free at public lots and meters.
Wednesday. The library’s African American book club discusses John Hope Franklin’s “Mirror to America”. The talk goes down at the Silver Spring Public Library (8901 Colesville Rd) at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday. The planning board gets down and dirty after its August recess. On the docket: proposed deadline extensions on project plans for Falkland North and 8700 Georgia Ave. The straight up-or-down vote drops around 9:30 a.m. at Park and Planning HQ (8787 Georgia Ave).
In the afternoon, the board rakes through the department’s capital improvements projects, including the future of Fenton Street Urban Park. That part of the show hits at 2:00 p.m.
