Friday
6:30 p.m. Kyi May Kaung reads from her work, “With or Without Womb”, at Kefa Cafe’s Space 7:10 (963 Bonifant St). Story time is free. Your iced mocha latte will cost you.
8:00 p.m. The final installment of the 2007 One Act Festival drops at the Silver Spring Stage (10145 Colesville Rd). Rocking this weekend: “Pretty Good Year”, “Shinel (The Overcoat)”, “Over and Over Again”, and “Lizard Brains”. Tickets run from $15 to $18.
Saturday
9:00 a.m. Score your daily requirement of fruits, veggies and croissants at the Ellsworth Drive farmers market. The bounty goes until 1:00 p.m.
10:00 a.m. Check out the B&O rail station (8100 Georgia Ave), the only building in below-the-Beltway Silver Spring listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The free open house runs to 3:00 p.m.
10:00 a.m. Take a guided hike down Georgia Avenue with members of the Silver Spring Historical Society. The tour starts at the B&O rail station (8100 Georgia Ave) and runs $5 (free for the kiddies).
6:05 p.m. The University of Maryland Terpskick off the football season at home against the Villanova University Wildcats. Let the betting begin!
7:00 p.m. Learn how the ancient Mayans kept track of important dates using the stars. “Ancient Skywatchers of Central America” rocks the Montgomery College planetarium (7651 Fenton St) for free.
