Suspect arrested in East Silver Spring shooting

Authorities have arrested a 27-year-old suspect in connection with Friday night’s shooting on Easley Street.

Rohan Campbell, of no fixed address, was busted in the District for first-degree murder and use of a handgun to commit a felony, the MoCo PD reported Saturday. He is in a DC jail awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Campbell is accused of shooting Mark Ray, 30, of the 800 block of Easley Street. Late Friday night, MoCo PD officers were called to the Silver Spring Towers, at 816 Easley St. When they arrived, they found Ray on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

Soon after the shooting, the PD released a description of their suspect: a 20-something black man who was seen leaving the scene. The police press statement does not explain what led detectives to Campbell.

A motive for the shooting also remains in the lurch, as does an exact cause of death. Baltimore’s medical examiner is scheduled to perform an autopsy.
