Construction near Silver Spring’s new transit center will shut down two busy crosswalks for up to two weeks.
The crosswalk next to the McDonald’s restaurant on Colesville Road at Second Avenue will be off-limits to pedestrians starting Monday, the department of public works and transportation announced Wednesday.
The same goes for the crosswalk at Wayne Avenue and Colesville Road, just south of Discovery headquarters and next to the “jug handle” roadway.
The closures will last one to two weeks while crews work on a bus-turning lane, a DPWT press statement said. Pedestrian detours will be posted.
All the detours and barriers are related to construction on Silver Spring’s new transit center. The work on Colesville Road will create permanent left-turn lanes for buses, the press statement explained.
The transit center’s construction — and the related bus detours — won’t kick in until early 2008, the statement added.
