DC restaurant week stays in DC

Dozens of area eateries are rocking next week’s lunch and dinner specials, but only two are kicking it in Silver Spring.

Downtown’s Austin Grill and Ceviche are the only two Silver Spring restaurants listed in this summer’s restaurant week roster. Diners can score lunch for $20 or dinner for $30 at either joint starting next Monday.

By comparison, 23 Silver Spring restaurants participated in February’s restaurant week. The response to that event was mixed, Susan Hoffmann, Silver Spring’s marketing and events manager, said at the time.

Jackie’s, Mrs. K’s Toll House and Crisfield Seafood did brisk business during that event, while Asian Bistro reported no difference in attendance, Hoffmann said.

This summer’s restaurant week runs through Sunday, Aug 12.

Damn Jenn, I hope they palmed the check. Mrs K’s would cut deep into my beer & wine budget. A “9″ is the highest raiting I have ever seen from you, but I have read that they have a crab cake that puts Crisfield’s to shame. (I alse read that the crab cake was Crisfields only weak link). Though trained as a French chef, I now cook for returning troops at a military hospital, so I’m a blue collar worker, paying Downtown SS rents. Mrs K’s has been on my must do list for a year, thank-you for the review, I’m pushing it to the top.

$20 for lunch and $30 for dinner are high prices to be paying for most of the restaurants in DTSS on a normal day, let alone for restaurant week. Maybe that is why there were very few participants. If the prices had dropped to, say $12 for lunch and $18 for dinner, you would probably would get more restaurants participating and a better turnout from the public.

I’d be surprised if there aren’t tumbleweeds blowing through Austin Grill at those prices. $30 for dinner at Austin Grill? You gotta be kidding.
