This morning, The Penguin rolls out some new bells and whistles for your surfing pleasure.
Thanks to Penguin editor Ron Pace, downtown Silver Spring’s restaurants, entertainment venues and construction sites have been completely mapped out. Hit the links on the right side of your screen, and cruise the virtual hood for grub, gigs and digs.
Got questions about the maps? Holler at this post or use The Penguin contact form.
Here’s what else drops this week:
Monday. County council members mull over what to do about those parking metersin South Silver Spring, Montgomery Hills and Fenton Village. The discussion drops at 9:00 a.m. in Rockville.
After lunch, Silver Spring parades before council members in a development update. The show hits at 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday. The full county council goes nuts in Rockville on its last day before a month-long vacation. At 9:00 a.m., they confirm the newest members of Long Branch’s citizens advisory committee. They also put the county’s growth policy on the shelf for another year.
At 10:00 a.m., council members unleash a bill requiring restaurant chains to smack nutritional labeling on their menus. An hour later, they introduce a bill that would allow developers to drop cash into an amenity fund, instead of building public-use space on their sites.
Finally, at 11:20 a.m., the council votes to put that parking-meter thing to bed.

Boxed wines and rosés are back in vogue. Just ask The Penguin's sommeliers.
The new map is great, but shouldn’t it include the proposed redevelopment of the Park and Planning site at Georgia and Spring and also the proposed office building just north of 8701 Georgia Avenue.
A good companion to the development map would be Just Up The Pike’s “Developments Up The Pike,” which shows what’s going up in the East County. Put them together and you can really see how much our area will change within the next few years.
Thanks, Bob. I’ll pass your recommendations on to Penguin cartographer Ron Pace.
