This Weekend

If anyone’s got ideas on how to survive the weekend without a new nightclub or inflatable shark, now’s the time to speak up.

Thursday

6:30 p.m. Teens tear up the Silver Spring Public Library (8901 Colesville Rd) for its first-ever Dance Dance Revolution tournament. Winners advance to next Tuesday’s championship rounds at the Wheaton library.

7:00 p.m. Silver Spring saxophonist Halley Shoenberg toots her horn at a free concert in downtown’s Silver Plaza.

Friday

Spend some quality time with your loved ones, and pray that a nightclub — any nightclub — opens soon in Silver Spring.

Saturday

9:00 a.m. Still fixating on those croissants at the Ellsworth Drive farmers market. Hit it until 1:00 p.m.

3:00 p.m. J. Forte and the Secret Pop Band rock the early bird special at McGinty’s Public House (911 Ellsworth Dr). The indie pop is free. The stout in your mug will cost you. Update: Adults pay a $5 cover; kids get in free. — JD (Jul 28, 2007)

6:30 p.m. Kajun Kelly unleashes the rock and roll in downtown’s Silver Plaza. The gig is free.

7:30 p.m. Classic rockers Rebels in Rehab kick it at the Mayorga Coffee Factory (8040 Georgia Ave). The old-school rock is free. The Hook and Ladder draught in your mug will cost you.

9:30 p.m. Musical artist Dickie D drops his new album on the Mayorga Coffee Factory (8040 Georgia Ave). It’s more West African dance music than one can shake a rump at.

Sunday

Do the laundry. Hit the supermarket. Finish writing that business plan.
