Thieves go on smash-and-grab spree

Eleven cars in Indian Spring and Long Branch were damaged in three nights, as thieves went after spare change and coffee cups.

The break-ins may be related to three more in Forest Glen and six in Hillandale, according to the third police district’s most recent crime summary. The thefts went down between July 11 and July 14 during overnight hours.

Along the 9200 block of Long Branch Parkway, thieves broke into a Chevy Prism and a Nissan to score coins and coffee cups. Thieves also took CDs from a Honda Civic on the 9500 block of Seminole Street, and clothes and coins from a Honda CRV on the 9000 block of Walden Road.

In Indian Spring, thieves scored an iPod and credit cards from a Mercury Tracer on the 9800 block of Hasting Drive. Another iPod was stolen from a Toyota Echo on the same block.

Three more cars were hit in Indian Spring. In those cases, thieves scored change, a radio or nothing at all.

During that same period, cash and a pair of sunglasses were taken from a Mazda 323 on the 100 block of Melbourne Avenue. Meanwhile, on the 9500 block of Seminole Street, thieves stole a cell phone from an Acura.

The police have not said whether there are any suspects or motives to the thefts.
