The Early Bird

Seems like everybody — and I mean everybody — is trying to squeeze out some business before the government’s August break.

What I want to know is: When do I get a break? Look at this week’s schedule:

Monday. Silver Spring’s neighborhoods committee talks about, well, the neighborhood. The committee kicks it at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave) starting at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday. The Silver Spring Public Library (8901 Colesville Rd) hosts storytelling in American sign language for the kiddies. The stories drop at 11:00 a.m.

Tuesday. The Long Branch advisory committee discusses all things Long Branch. The committee rocks the Long Branch Community Center (8700 Piney Branch Rd) starting at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday. Silver Spring’s commercial and economic development committee talks shop, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave).

Thursday. The planning board gets its first whack at United Therapeutics‘ new mother ship, planned near the intersection of Cameron and Spring streets. The project review goes down during the 9:00 a.m. session at planning HQ (8787 Georgia Ave).

After lunch, the board gets the full scoop on volunteer efforts to maintain the Capital Crescent Trail. That presentation rocks the 1:00 p.m. session.

Thursday. The urban district advisory committee discusses what’s shaking in the central business district. The meeting hits Discovery Communications (1 Discovery Pl) at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday. MoCo exec Ike Leggett (D) hosts open-mic night at the Woodside United Methodist Church (8900 Georgia Ave). Bring your kudos and gripes, and just let it all out. The town-hall meeting starts at 8:00 p.m.
