Monday. Silver Spring’s neighborhoods committee meets to discuss, well, the neighborhood. The meeting goes down at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave) starting at 7:00 p.m.

Monday. Crime novelist and Silver Spring resident George Pelecanos talks about his latest book, “The Night Gardener,” at the Long Branch Public Library (8800 Garland Ave). That gig starts at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday. The county council considers coughing up $400,000 to open the southwest entrance to Silver Spring’s Metro station, next to the NOAA offices. The powwow goes down at 1:30 p.m. in Rockville.

Tuesday. The Long Branch advisory committee meets to talk about all things Long Branch. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Long Branch Community Center (8700 Piney Branch Rd).

Tuesday. Local author Mary Kay Ricks talks about her latest history book, “Escape on the Pearl,” at the Silver Spring Public Library (8901 Colesville Rd). That gig starts at 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday. Silver Spring’s commercial and economic development committee meets at the Silver Spring Regional Center starting at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday. The urban district advisory committee huddles at Discovery Communications (1 Discovery Pl) starting at 3:30 p.m.
