On Friday night, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center (8230 Georgia Ave) hosts an opening reception for “Fieldwork: Placing Space in the Colorfield Remix.” The multimedia exhibit honors the Color Field art movement of the 1950s and 1960s, and is part of a three-month-long, area-wide celebration. The free reception starts at 6:30 p.m.
Starting on Friday, the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Rd) rolls “Throne of Blood,” director Akira Kurosawa’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” Screenings run throughout the weekend and will set you back $9.25 per seat ($7.50 if you’re a student, senior or AFI member).
Also starting on Friday, the Silver Spring Stage (10145 Colesville Rd, Woodmoor Shopping Center) premieres the comedy “Drawer Boy” by Michael Healey. The curtain rises at 8:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through May 6, 2007. Tickets are $13 to $18 each.
On Saturday, the AFI Silver Theatre hosts open auditions for “American Movie Trax,” a syndicated radio program on film and entertainment. Participants don’t need a degree in cinema but should be able to articulate their opinions on movies.
Those who are selected to appear on the program receive financial compensation (cha-CHING!). Those who don’t get free sodas and snacks. The cattle call runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In the evening, check out poetry by C.S. Giscombe, Susan Tichy and Ken Rumble at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. The event, part of the Ruthless Grip poetry series, starts at 8:00 p.m.
