Local Licks: Triple the action

Updated Apr 12, 2007, at 4:45 p.m.

This evening, The Pine Leaf Boys turn out fun Cajun zydeco at Los Arrieros (7926 Georgia Ave). Download hot, two-steppin’ samples of their music free from the band’s website before you catch them live at 7:30 p.m. There is a $15 cover charge.

Then on Saturday, the Moose Lodge (926 Wayne Ave) hosts three surf bands: New Jersey’s Mister Neutron, Connecticut’s 9th Wave, and Maryland’s own The Gremmies. Both The Gremmies and 9th Wave play straight, guitar-based reverb rock by way of Dick Dale’s “Misirlou” (of “Pulp Fiction” fame), but Mister Neutron hits it with a twist of British punk rock.

Get a hit of The Gremmies, 9th Wave and Mister Neutron from their respective websites, then catch the wave starting at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ten bucks gets you through the door. It’s unclear whether the Moose Lodge serves refreshments, so handle your business before the show.

Also on Saturday, Jenny Boyle performs country-fried folk rock at the Austin Grill (919 Ellsworth Dr). The local songstress, registered nurse and all-around hottie cranks it out with Melissa Etheridge’s ferocity and Shania Twain’s smooth vocals.

Sample Boyle’s music from her CD Baby website, learn more about her adventures with our nation’s troops, then check her out at the Austin Grill. The 9:00 p.m. free gig is part of the 2007 Six Points Music Festival.
