Silver Spring has been DYING for a good sushi place...and it STILL IS. This Sushi Jin place is a huge disappointment. Menu is way overpriced and portions are smaller than I've ever seen anywhere else (and I've travelled globally!). I have gone 3 times, trying to give them a chance, but am sadly not going to go back. I had to send my last order back because the sushi smelled and tasted old; definitely not fresh!

Jomama, try Moby Dick Sushi and Sashimi on Triangle Lane in Wheaton. After reading a good review in the Washington Post we've been going there. We used to make the trip to Bethesda to get our sushi fix so I'm happy to find something close by that's just as good.

Thanks for your comments, JJ. The 10-point rating system will be back next week.

For your reference, I give Sushi Jin a five out of ten. But they need to hit Ikea hard for better gear. Gotta pimp that place out!

Hey Penguin - where did your 10 point ranking system for restaurant reviews go? That feature offered a nice snapshot.

Others - where can you find a decent sushi place near Silver Spring?

I agree completely with your review of Sushi-Jin. I ate there two times when they first opened since I was so glad we finally got what appeared to be a good sushi restaurant.

Both times the experience was exactly as you described, bland food, uninterested help and most annoying--the overly bright lighting. At the end of a long day's work, the last thing anyone wants is to be blasted with bright flourescent light. The interior design is decent but the atmosphere is rendered almost uncomfortable because it is so bright.

What a shame...we so badly need another option to the Asian Bistro.
