This Weekend

Thursday’s internet-service disruption brought The Penguin newsroom to a grinding halt. Our reporters called it quits at 1:30 p.m., and there’s no chance of these slackers returning to the office on a Friday.

This weekend, enjoy what Silver Spring has to offer. Our miscellaneous droppings  resume next week.

On Friday, Washington Gardener magazine hosts a reception for the winners of its annual photography contest. The free nosh starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Adams Bank lobby (8121 Georgia Ave). The winning photos are on display until May 25.

Saturday is reserved for music. At 7:30 p.m., the Bach Sinfonia cranks up Handel’s “Water Music” suite at the Woodside United Methodist Church (8900 Georgia Ave). Tickets are $25 each ($16 if you pack student ID, $22 if you’re over 60, free if you’re a kid).

At 9:30 p.m., JP McDermott and Western Bop roll out the rockabilly at the Quarry House (8401 Georgia Ave). The music and dancing are free. The tear in your beer will cost you.

Speaking of Thursday’s Internet disruption, what do you know about it? Was it limited to RCN/Starpower in Silver Spring? It was still out at 6 6 a.m., but working again by 8 a.m. Do you know what caused it?

  2. Don’t know what caused it. All I know is that it SUCKED severely.

How did we function before the Internet?

That’s odd– our Comcast cable internet was out all afternoon and evening Thursday as well, but the cable was working.
