Local Licks: Enemony

EnemonyLocal rockers Enemony (right) lay down acoustic grunge and emo punk with serious chops. The Silver Spring band unleashes its wrath Friday night.

The name Enemony springs from the words energy and harmony, according to the band’s website. Whatever. The band’s history is a little more complicated than that.

The Silver Spring-based quartet started as Our Plastic Heroes, with lead singer Tom. (Apparently, plastic heroes don’t have last names.) Their song “Push Me Off” took cues from Incubus and Rise Against, but their “recorded in Mom’s basement” sound and instrumentation needed work.

A few years later, Tom was replaced with Sasha, and Our Plastic Heroes became Enemony. The guitar lessons apparently paid off, as Enemony has a tighter, polished sound. They still take their cues from Incubus and Rise Against, as well as AFI.

A big bonus: Sasha rocks with the band instead of above it. Her vocal style blends perfectly with James’s guitar, Andy’s bass and Martin’s drums. (Don’t these people believe in last names?!?)

Sample Enemony’s music on the band’s MySpace website, then catch them live at the Mayorga Coffee Factory (8040 Georgia Ave). That deal goes down Friday night at 8:00.
