The Early Bird

This week, everybody–and I mean everybody–has something to say about the state of things. At the Penguin newsroom, the state of things goes like this: Still overworked, underpaid and uninsured. At least the coffee’s good and the donuts are fresh. Here’s what else is cooking this week.

Correction appended. (Jan 22, 2007)

Monday. Police commander Betsy Davis discusses the state of the Forest Glen footbridge, site of three muggings. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m at the Gwendolyn Coffield Community Center (2450 Lyttonsville Rd).

Monday. The transportation and pedestrian safety board discusses the state of–well, transportation and pedestrian safety in Silver Spring. The deal goes down at 7:30 p.m. at the Silver Spring Regional Center (8435 Georgia Ave).

Tuesday. MoCo exec Ike Leggett (D) takes suggestions on the county’s 2008 budget. The forum goes down at the Long Branch Community Center (8700 Piney Branch Rd) at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday. President George W. Bush (R) discusses the state of the union at 9:00 p.m. on The Hill. Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va) delivers his party’s response.

Wednesday. County residents give Ike Leggett more stuff to sweat at a town-hall meeting. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Northwood High School (919 University Blvd), Kemp Mill.

Thursday. The county council holds a public forum to prioritize transportation objectives. Schlep to Rockville for the 7:30 p.m. gig, or watch it live on county cable channel 6.

Correction: Northwood High School is located in the neighborhood of Kemp Mill, not Kemp Mills. (Jan 22, 2007)

Kemp Mill. We get enough with the “Silver Springs” as it is.

  2. Editor says:

    Fixed it!

Apologies to all Kemp Mill (singular) residents.
